How Often to Top-Dress
Hard to treat spots may need several applications, but constantly, top dressing does not have to be done every year. Just remember that you are adding soil, which over time will raise your soil grade and affect thatch breakdown and soil ecology, so don’t over do it . Plan several light applications for problematic yards, rather than one big go. For overall organic soil amendment, a very light application of top-dressing brushed into aeration holes can improve the soil without raising the grade.
